Artifact’s surface is analyzed andthe user can personally adjust the intensity of the ink. New frottage can be produced through variety of attempts.

Digital frottage can improve efficiency by reducing work time by at least eight times compared to traditional methods.
Due to the nature of the contactless digital frottage production method, the damage rate of artifacts is low, and outdoor cultural properties can be used without environmental restrictions.
The three-dimensional or complex deformed artifacts can be rubbed, and the results of the frottage can be seen in real time.

    As there is no direct contact with the artifacts during the manufacturing process, artifacts of sensitive materials or artifacts that are at risk of corrosion damage can be made as a frottage.

    Because the data of artifacts is acquired using a 3D scanner, the weather is less affected than the frottage method using paper and ink, and especially, the frottage can be made with little influence from temperature and humidity.

  • Various types of artifacts can be copied.

    In the case of frottage using paper and ink, it was possible to do frottage work on artifacts that can paper could be attached to.
    Digital frottage can be done even with artifacts of three-dimensional or complex deformities, and artifacts from various directions can be produced immediately to check the results.

  • Utilize digital data characteristics in a variety of ways

    Using the characteristics of digital data, in addition to the results similar to the existing frottage results, various applications such as inverted frottage (inversion of color in intaglio &embossing) and relief frottage (three-dimensional relief frottage) can be used.
